East Texas Colleges

Most soils in East Texas are highly acidic, yet nearly a third of acreage in East Texas is suitable for growing alfalfa. This is just one fact you can learn majoring in agriculture at a college in East Texas. Students who complete a medical degree at an East Texas college can transition to one of the many area medical facilitie, such as the Renaissance Hospital in Groves. The colleges available in East Texas vary from state universities to private universities that you may attend in person or online.
  1. Tyler Junior College

    • Tyler Junior College (TJC) is in Tyler, Texas. This college offers traditional classroom settings via instructional television, online classes and on-site classes. This college also offers college credits to high school students. The school of liberal arts and sciences offers classes in art, history, economics and speech; the school of nursing and health professions has classes in agriculture, emergency medical and respiratory care; and the school of professional and technical studies offers classes in criminal justice, automotive technology and engineering design technology. TJC classifies students as residents, or those who reside in Tyler county; out-of-district, or those who reside in Texas but outside of Tyler County; and non-residents, or all students not classified in the first two categories. Resident students pay $144 per tuition hour as of 2010. Out-of-district students pay $185 per tuition hour. Non-resident students pay $205 per tuition hour. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits TJC.

    Northeast Texas Community College

    • Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) is in Mount Pleasant. This college offers distance education, continuing education, and freshman and sophomore years of baccalaureate programs. Choose from day or evening classes. Attend one of the two summer sessions or one of the two intersessions, which are sessions between the fall and spring sessions and between the spring and summer sessions. Resident students come from Camp, Morris or Titus counties. Out-of-district students include any other Texas resident. Three semester hours equal one class. Resident students pay $216 per tuition hour. Out-of-district students pay $327 per tuition hour. Non-resident students pay $520 per tuition hour. NTCC offers such degrees as associate of arts in business management, and biomedical science and medical assistance. It has associate of science degrees in biology, dental hygiene and physics. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accredits NTCC.

    Letourneau University

    • LeTourneau University is in Longview, Texas. This university offers degrees in aeronautical science, business, engineering and education. In addition to degrees, LeTourneau offers continued education and specialty programs. This is a private university. Tuition rates are same for in state and out-of-state students, which is $21,510 per academic year for 12-18 credit hours per semester. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges accredits LeTourneau University.
