East Texas Community Colleges

Many people attend community colleges to save money on tuition, get core classes out of the way before transferring to a four-year university and begin continuing education programs. East Texas is a large rural region and has several different community college systems available for all ages and types of students.
  1. Northeast Texas Community College

    • Located near Chapel Hill, Pittsburgh and Mount Pleasant, this east Texas community college offers classes for all levels of students, four-year degree programs and professional development training courses. There are five instructional programs available, including arts and sciences, business and public services, communications and math, continuing workforce, health careers and informational technology. The campus is attractive and easily accessible to residents of Camp, Morris and Titus counties. There are several main buildings, a residence hall, physical fitness annex, rodeo arena and a performing arts center.

    Tyler Junior College

    • Situated in the piney woods of east Texas, Tyler Junior College has offered continuing education since 1926. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for associate degree programs. The main areas of study at Tyler Junior College are allied health and nursing, applied studies (business and technology), college preparatory studies, continued studies and university studies. The school offers a vibrant student life and feels more like a four-year program than other community colleges with on-campus housing for more than 600 students. It is also has nationally ranked intercollegiate programs and is home to the Apache Belles and Apache Band. There is a main campus and a west campus.

    Kilgore College

    • With campuses in Kilgore and Longview, Kilgore College is a two-year, comprehensive public community college that serves local residents and international students. It offers classes for all types of students, from recent high school graduates to nontraditional students, and the most common majors studied there include security and law enforcement. It has several sports teams, as well as a world-famous dance team, the Rangerettes. It also features an East Texas oil museum.

    Texarkana College

    • Located near the Texas-Arkansas border, Texarkana College is a two-year institution that offers courses beyond the typical liberal arts, business, math and media programs. Some of its specialty programs include agriculture science, beauty and cosmetology, culinary arts, drama, landscaping, real estate and law enforcement. It is classified as an associate of arts college and has around 4,000 registered part-time and full-time students. Financial aid is available, and there is on-campus housing as well.
