Northeast Lakeview College is the newest member of the Alamo Community College group. The school has been open just since the fall of 2007, and works in partnership with sister schools St. Philip's College and San Antonio College to provide for the educational needs of the people who live northeast of the city of San Antonio and out towards Comal County. Located in Universal City, the college offers associates degree programs in English, performing arts, humanities and science.

With seven campuses in and around the city of Austin, the Austin Community College system has been offering two-year college and community education for 36 years. The schools serve more than 40,000 credit students and an eighth campus is preparing to open in 2010. The college provides associate degree programs, continuing education and other community services such as English as a second language and GED training. ACC offers 235 different educational options, from associate degrees to certificate programs to adult education. Russian, game development, air force science and Arabic are among the degree offerings. The college also has a number of community learning centers to aid people from outside Austin with their educational needs. One of those is found in San Marcos, just a few miles from Comal County.

Located near San Antonio, Northwest Vista College began offering classes in 1995 with just 12 students. Current enrollment is up to 12,000 students at its main campus and a number of off-site locations. Class offerings include traditional daytime classes, night classes and also Internet and weekend course work. Two-year associate degrees and one-year certificate programs are available in programs that include Mexican-American studies, new media, coaching, pre-med and nanotechnology.
