    The Juilliard School

    • Founded in 1905, The Juilliard School provides talented students with instruction in music, drama and dance at the undergraduate and graduate levels. All applicants to Juilliard must audition in their area of study, and admissions are largely based on the result of the auditions, which are held both at Juilliard and at selected cities nationwide. Undergraduate music, drama and dance students have the option of completing either a bachelor's degree or a diploma; the diploma does not include liberal arts courses. Graduate degrees and diplomas are offered in music only. Tuition-free graduate-level programs for exceptional performers in jazz and opera are available. Juilliard notes on its website that approximately 1,000 applicants vie for 18 spots in each year's freshman drama class.
