Colleges & Universities in New Jersey for Liberal Arts

The study of liberal arts focuses on the fundamental disciplines of literature, languages, art, mathematics, philosophy, history and science. According to "U.S. News and World Report," New Jersey has two nationally ranked liberal arts schools, Drew University and Bloomfield College. However, there are many other accredited liberal arts schools in the Garden State.
  1. Bloomfield College

    • Ten miles outside of New York City, Bloomfield College is a small liberal arts school of 2,000 students. Bloomfield is a coeducational private school that is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Bloomfield offers 20 undergraduate degrees, as well as a master's in accounting and nursing degrees.

    Caldwell College

    • Located in northern New Jersey, Caldwell College refers to its curriculum as a "Catholic liberal arts education." Caldwell offers 29 undergraduate majors, including a bachelor's in medical technology and three computer science degrees. The college also confers 24 graduate degrees in the fields of behavioral analysis, business, education, psychology and theology/philosophy.

    Centenary College

    • With three campuses in northern New Jersey and an equestrian center, Centenary College identifies itself as "the primary educational and cultural resource for northwest New Jersey." In addition to undergraduate and master's degrees in arts, business and language, Centenary offers five different degrees in equine studies.

    Drew University

    • Drew University is located on a 186-acre campus in Madison, New Jersey and is comprised of an undergraduate college, a graduate school and a theological seminary. Drew offers 29 undergraduate degrees, including a dual degree in pre-medicine/pre-law, pre-medicine/teaching and engineering/applied science.
