Community Colleges in North Texas

Community colleges in north Texas can be found in two primary locations. In the northwestern part of the state that extends northward to the Oklahoma panhandle region, Amarillo serves as the primary locus for community college education. In northeast Texas, community colleges can be found primarily in the Dallas region. These community colleges provide students with a wide variety of degree and vocational program options.
  1. Amarillo College

    • Amarillo College has been educating students since 1929. The college has six campuses that provide students with the flexibility of attending classes on multiple campuses, if necessary. As of the 2009-2010 academic school year, Amarillo College had more than 11,000 degree-seeking students enrolled and more than 30,000 continuing education students enrolled. The school offers more than 160 programs of study, some of which include interior design, radiation therapy and criminal justice. The school also offers several online degree programs and a certificate in mortuary science.

    North Central Texas College

    • Located in Gainesville, North Central Texas College offers several different degree program options as well as technical studies programs. The school is divided into six major academic departments: college preparatory studies; social sciences; English, speech and foreign language; science; math and physics; and fine arts. Technical programs include nursing, surgical technology and radiological technology, among others. Applied technology programs are offered in agriculture, horticulture, farm and ranch management and several other areas.

    Northeast Texas Community College

    • Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) in Mt. Pleasant has a working relationship with Texas A & M University's Texarkana, Arkansas, campus that provides students the opportunity to pursue "two plus two" programs in teaching and business administration. This means that students who complete the first two years of coursework at NTCC can matriculate directly into the four-year programs at Texas A & M without having to go through the traditional admissions process. NTCC also offers instruction and degree programs in six major areas of instruction: the arts and sciences; business and public service; communications and math; health careers; continuing education; and information technology.

    Moutain View College

    • Mountain View College (MVC) in Dallas is a part of the Dallas County Community College District, which includes seven campuses and a distance education program. MVC offers degree programs through its four primary academic divisions: arts, humanities and social sciences; business, computer science and math; teacher education and communications; and science, allied health and physical education.
