British Military Schools

As in the United States, British military academies were established with the intention of recruiting new enlistees in the various military branches. By providing potential recruits access to a paid college education, the military has provided an attractive outlet for students to obtain a postsecondary education in exchange for service to the British army, navy or air force. Some military academies have been established for children in secondary institutions as well.

The training program at Sandhurst lasts 48 months. An additional shorter program, the Professional Qualified Officer course, is available for those planning to serve the military in the capacity of a doctor or lawyer.
