El Camino College is a two-year public community college located in Torrance. With a student body of over 25,000 people, El Camino serves as a primary feeder school for many communities in the Los Angeles area including Manhattan Beach. El Camino offers over 2,500 classes in 85 programs of study. It is one of the leading transfer institutions to such four year universities as UCLA, USC, Cal State Long Beach, San Diego State University, Chapman University and Cal State Pomona. Founded in 1969, West Los Angeles College is located in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Culver City. In a stark contrast to El Camino College, West L.A. stresses smaller class sizes. The student population is 10,000 with 25 programs available for those wishing to transfer to a four-year university. West Los Angeles thrives on adult programs with a high amount of night classes for those who have full-time jobs during the day. There are 65 associate's degree programs available.

Smaller than both El Camino College and West Los Angeles College, Los Angeles Harbor College specializes in ensuring its students are the cutting edge of the latest innovations in modern technology. Founded in 1949, LAHC has about 8,000 students with 73 percent of them going to school part time according to a 2004 survey. There are numerous courses designed to help students transfer to a four-year university as well as adult services and certificate programs.
