Santa Monica College dates back to 1929 and today boasts a student body of approximately 30,000 students. The school offers around 80 areas of study and, as of March 2010, tuition costs just $26 per unit. The 38-acre campus plays host to such educational facilities as computer labs, a library, a planetarium, and an art gallery. The college offers five satellite campuses throughout Santa Monica as well. Santa Monica College also serves as the home to KCRW, a National Public Radio station which broadcasts across the southland.

Pasadena City College first opened its doors back in 1911. Today it sits on 37 acres of land and caters to more than 26,000 students. Students can choose from 76 different career and technical programs, 60 academic programs, and 25 learning programs, all of which offer evening and weekend classes. PCC boasts such revered alumni as filmmaker John Singleton, baseball Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, and fashion designer Bob Mackie. The National Public Radio station known as KPCC broadcasts from the campus of Pasadena City College.

Rio Hondo College resides in the hills of Whittier, California, just 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The school plays host to around 20,000 students, offers close to 500 specialty certificates, and awards two-year associate degrees in approximately 40 disciplines. The college features such perks as a child development center, general education classes available online, and opportunities to study abroad in locations such as London, England or Salamanca, Spain. In the fall of 2009, Rio Hondo College unveiled a new state-of-the-art, $36 million library.
