Founded in 1967 and located in nearby Weyers Cave, Blue Ridge Community College awards associate degrees, diplomas and occupational certificates. BRCC also offers courses of study designed for college or university transfer and non-credit training and special interest classes for community members and businesses. The college maintains a financial aid office to provide students with access to financial resources and education regarding financial options.
With locations in Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, National College offers a number of different programs to students near Staunton, Virginia. National College's Harrisonburg campus, opened in January 2007, offers four bachelor degrees, seven associate degrees and 14 professional diplomas. The Charlottesville campus awards associate degrees in five departments and professional diplomas in 12 business and health-care specialties.
One of the 23 institutions that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Piedmont Virginia Community College provides a number of programs ranging from non-credit workforce certificates and courses for students looking to upgrade job skills to courses of study that award associate degrees in arts, sciences and applied sciences. Since 1972, PVCC has awarded more that 9,500 associates degrees and certificates.
Offering programs to both current high school students as well as adults from the local communities, the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) focuses its training and curriculum on the vocational needs of its students. High school students can enroll in a select number of programs and complete work toward a professional certificate while finishing high school. Adult education programs help develop career skills by preparing students for and arranging apprenticeships.
Operated by the Augusta County School Board, the Valley Vocational Technical Center provides an extension of the curricula for seven feeder high schools. Although the primary focus of the center is to offer vocational career training for high school students, it also provides classes to local adults looking to broaden or improve their vocational skills. The adult learning center provides options to earn a high school diploma for adults who failed to complete high school.
