Texas Catholic Colleges

Texas is home to 208 nationally accredited universities and colleges, several of which are affiliated with the Catholic Church. For students looking to find a Catholic university to attend, Texas would be a great place to start their search. The schools offer prospective students many choices while pursuing higher education.
  1. St. Edward's University

    • St. Edward's University has an enrollment of 5,348, an admission rate of 64 percent, and offers a student/teacher ratio of 19 to 1. The university was founded in 1885 and still emphasizes the same standards of ethical practice, critical thinking and social justice. St. Edward's offers students small classes, personal attention, exciting internships, service-learning opportunities and study-abroad programs. The university ranks 536th overall among national schools and 15th in Texas.

    The University of Dallas

    • The University of Dallas was founded in 1956. The 1,337 undergraduates come from 49 states and 15 countries; 82 percent of the student body is Catholic. The 1,506 graduate students come from 40 states and 43 countries; 34 percent of the graduate student body is Catholic. More than 120 full-time faculty members create a student/teacher ratio of 13 to 1. The university is fully accredited to award its students degrees through the Ph.D. level. The University of Dallas is ranked second among 32 Texas colleges and universities of its size in the 2011 "America's Best College" rankings by U.S. News & World Report, and is considered a top college in the 2011 Princeton Review guidebook.

    The College of Saint Thomas More

    • The College of Saint Thomas More is located in Fort Worth. This school offers its students a four-year degree program that focuses on the­ol­o­gy, phi­los­o­phy and lit­er­a­ture. Each graduating student is required to have studied four years of clas­si­cal lan­guages before being awarded a Bach­e­lor of Arts degree in liberal arts. Current enrollment is 81 students, making the student/teacher ration 4 to 1. The College of Saint Thomas More ranks 171st in the nation and eighth in Texas.

    Our Lady of the Lake University

    • Our Lady of the Lake University has been offering Catholic higher education since opening its doors in 1895. The university, home to 2,642 students, is steeped in Hispanic heritage, and offers dual-language certification as an option with each of its undergraduate degree programs. The school offers 33 bachelor's degree programs, 14 master's degree programs and two doctoral degree programs.
