Chicago Catholic Colleges

The Windy City is home to the largest Polish population outside of Krakow, and it has a very large Irish contingent on the South Side. With people from these overwhelmingly Catholic communities and the hundreds of others in the city, Chicago is a melting pot of religions, and Catholicism is one of the most prominent. Because of this, Catholic colleges have found it easy to find students to attend their campuses in Chicago.
  1. Catholic Theological Union

    • Catholic Theological Union is located on Chicago's South Side in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood, which is well known across the country as President Barack Obama's home neighborhood. CTU is a graduate-level school for students who wish to continue their careers in Catholic theological studies. The school is for men and women who wish to become lay persons, as well as for men wishing to enter the priesthood. The school isn't limited to students from Chicago -- students and alumni come from at least 46 nations, as well as from the rest of the United States.

    Loyola University Chicago

    • Loyola University Chicago is located on the city's far North Side in the Rogers Park neighborhood. The largest Jesuit Catholic university in the United States, the school sits along the shores of Lake Michigan. Nearly 16,000 students total attend Loyola on both undergraduate and graduate levels, working their way through the curriculum to earn degrees in one of 71 undergraduate majors and minors or one of 85 master's degrees. The Rogers Park campus is located off the Loyola stop on the Red Line, which also happens to connect to the school's Water Tower campus downtown, off the Red Line's Chicago stop.

    DePaul University

    • DePaul University is located in Chicago's upscale Lincoln Park neighborhood. Named after St. Vincent de Paul, this Catholic college has more than 275 undergraduate and graduate programs to choose from. Students at DePaul can live on campus, or they can commute easily via the CTA's Brown and Red Line stop at Fullerton. More than 25,000 students attend the school each year, and counted among the alumni are members of the prominent Daley family, as well as former Cook County President John Stroger.

    Saint Xavier University

    • Saint Xavier University is located on Chicago's South Side in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood. Nestled in the middle of an area where residents take their heritage very seriously, this Catholic university also has two high schools right off campus: girls-only Mother McAuley, and boys-only Brother Rice. SXU serves more than 5,000 students each year at the undergraduate and graduate levels on its main campus in Mount Greenwood and its satellite school in Orland Park.
