Minneapolis Community and Technical College's Law Enforcement Program offers courses applying communication and human behavior principles and developing hands-on skills for challenging situations they may encounter in their careers as professional law enforcement officers. Students learn arrest procedures, traffic stop and defensive tactics, as well as other skills needed to perform this job effectively.
The Minneapolis Police Academy located at Fort Snelling trains newly-hired police officers to become equipped with the skills and experience needed to begin their careers in law enforcement. Training at the acadamy usually last 14 to 16 weeks, Monday through Friday, with weekends off. Police recruits must pass standard fitness tests to pass the course.
Century College offers continuing education classes in law enforcement, private security, corrections and investigation. It offers classes to those who are already members of law enforcement agencies, private detectives, corrections officers, or those interested in becoming one of these parties. Certificate programs include Crime Scene Investigation, Responding to Domestic Violence, and Counter-Terrorism Options.
Rasmussen College offers an associate degree in law enforcement at its several Minnesota campuses. Students study investigation techniques and skills needed to work side by side with other officers and law enforcement agents.
