How to Make a Good School Project

At some point, all teachers will assign their students a school project. These projects are often open-ended and may be novel experiences for some students. In many cases, students must work independently and answer a unique question. However, students should not feel lost, as there is a general set of steps that students can follow to complete their school projects.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a general subject that interests you. Make sure this is a subject you can investigate easily. You should have a general question about this subject that you want to answer.

    • 2

Confirm with your teacher that this subject is suitable for your project. If she agrees on the topic you have chosen, discuss with her what is required from you to finish this project. Ask your teacher how long she thinks the project will take you to finish.

    • 3

Specify a clear question for your research. This question is the fundamental basis for your project. A clear question will define the project and give you direction.

    • 4

Read literature that may provide the answer to your question. If you created an interesting question, you should not be able to find the answer to your question simply through reading. However, your readings on your topic of choice should give you a strong background that can help you plan your investigation.

    • 5

Create a detailed research plan. This plan should state how you will go about answering your research question. Your plan needs to state the question clearly, give a brief review of your readings on the topic, explain your hypothesis, and detail how you will investigate the answer to your question.

    • 6

Seek approval from your teacher. Show your teacher your research plan. Your teacher will either approve of your plan or give you suggestions on how to improve it. Revise your plan as necessary.

    • 7

Work through your plan. Since you have already prepared your plan and have obtained approval, you can start working on the project itself. Remember to pay attention to the speed of your progress, as your project likely has a deadline.

    • 8

Summarize your findings. A summary of a school project should at least contain the following sections: Introduction, Literature Review, Aim of Project, Hypothesis, Method, Conclusion, and References.
