Georgia Colleges That Have Law Enforcement

Careers in criminology, juvenile justice and investigation are examples of opportunities that await students who choose to pursue an undergraduate degree in law enforcement. Courses usually focus on such aspects as criminal law, crime scene investigation and skills common to a broad range of law enforcement professionals. In Georgia, there are a number of colleges that offer law enforcement programs at various levels.
  1. American InterContinental University

    • American InterContinental University is a 75,000 square foot facility located in a business community 15 minutes north of Atlanta, Georgia. This university offers a number of campuses throughout the United States in addition to a campus in London, England and an online campus. Undergraduate students interested in law enforcement can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Law Enforcement. Students will learn skills common to a broad range of law enforcement professionals and obtain knowledge in police theory, law enforcement practice and security management to prepare students for entry level law enforcement positions. The curriculum involves a number of core courses such as Introduction to Criminal Law and Crime Victim Studies. Specialization courses are also required and include such topics as Security and Loss Prevention, Evidence, and Terror and Homeland Security.

    Westwood College

    • Westwood College has two Atlanta campuses: Midtown and Northlake. Founded in Denver, Colorado in 1953, Westwood College offers three-year bachelor's degrees at 17 campuses across the United States, in addition to an online campus. Students with a desire to pursue law enforcement may be interested in obtaining a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. The program focuses on law enforcement aspects such as criminal law, crisis intervention, crime scene investigation, juvenile justice, digital crime, probation and parole. Courses are instructed by industry professionals with diverse backgrounds. Students will receive an experience-based education through Westwood's internship program. An online learning option is also available for this program.

    Thomas University

    • Located in the small city of Thomasville, Georgia, Thomas University is a private four-year co-educational university that serves post-secondary educational needs of South Georgia and North Florida. Undergraduate students can obtain an associate's degree in Law Enforcement. To obtain certification as a law enforcement professional, seven core courses and 61 total credit hours of course work are needed to receive this certification. To become certified as a correctional officer, 12 core courses are needed. Core courses include such subjects as English Composition, U.S. History and Government and Oral Communication for Professionals. The associate's degree in Law Enforcement is a program that is available completely online.

    ITT Technical Institute - Kennesaw

    • ITT Technical Institute offers technology-oriented undergraduate and graduate degrees and has over 100 campuses throughout 38 states in the U.S. The Kennesaw, Georgia campus offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Areas of study include law enforcement, courts and corrections. Program content involves such topics as criminal law and procedures, cyber crime and homeland security. Upper level courses expand on topics such as victimology, forensics and investigations. ITT Technical Institute in Kennesaw also offers an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. Fundamentals of the criminal justice system and law enforcement skills are the program's focus. Both degrees can be obtained online.
