Scholarships and Grants in Ohio

With the cost of a college degree on the rise, more students are looking to grant and scholarship money to help cover the costs of educational expenses. For Ohio students, there are a number of grant and scholarship opportunities available that can help to offset some of their education costs.
  1. Ohio Academic Scholarship

    • The Ohio Academic Scholarship was developed as an initiative to encourage Ohio students to attend colleges and universities in-state. Scholarships of $2,000 (as of 2010) are awarded to academically superior students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in two- and four-year institutions in the state of Ohio.

    Lee E. Schauer Memorial Scholarship

    • The Lee E. Schauer Memorial Scholarship provides exceptional students with a $10,000 scholarship, as of 2010, to be paid toward college expenses. High school seniors who have been a member of the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA for at least three years prior are eligible to apply. Students must demonstrate a history of active participation in YMCA programs. This scholarship is designed for students who may not qualify for other scholarships based on their grades but who demonstrate dedication and commitment to service in their community.

    Ohio College Opportunity Grant Program

    • The Ohio College Opportunity Grant Program is for low-income students who are currently attending an eligible institution in Ohio and are pursuing an associate, bachelor's or nursing degree. Eligibility is determined by household size and gross family income. The amount of the grant varies based on which institution the student is attending and whether he is pursuing a degree on a full- or part-time basis.

    Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund Scholarships

    • The Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund provides scholarships for dependents of Ohio safety officers who were killed in the line of duty. The program is also open to children and spouses of U.S. Armed Service members who were killed in the line of duty in Operation Enduring Freedom, the war in Iraq and/or any designated combat zone. The fund pays for all tuition and fees for students attending public colleges and universities in Ohio. Students attending private institutions are eligible to receive a partial scholarship.

    Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

    • The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is available to Ohio high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence. Scholarships of $1,500 are awarded annually, as of 2010, to seniors graduating at the tops of their classes who possess strong leadership skills and are active participants in service to the community. The scholarship program is entirely federally funded and is renewable for four years.
