Scholarships for Minorities in New Jersey

According to the United States Department of Education, the total number of minorities enrolled in a degree-granting institution has more than doubled since 1976. This may be due to the increase in scholarships offered to minority students who wish to pursue a professional career. Minorities from New Jersey have opportunities to earn scholarship money based upon the chosen field of study or individual career goals.

    Hispanic Higher Education Scholarship

    • The Hispanic Higher Education Scholarship Fund was created in 2002 by the New Jersey Mental Health Institute to bring awareness to the lack of English and Spanish speaking mental health professionals working in the state of New Jersey. "Providing funds for Hispanic students to pursue a graduate degree in social work is a long-term strategy to directly address the desperate shortage of qualified bilingual and bicultural mental health professionals who can address the mental needs of New Jersey's growing Hispanic community," stated NJMHI executive director, Debra Wentz, Ph.D. The amount of money granted for this award varies from year to year, based solely on the total amount available after fundraising activities. This scholarship is granted to a bilingual Hispanic student with a baccalaureate degree who wishes to pursue a master's degree in social work.
