The winner of the scholarship will be notified within one month of the scholarship deadline and must confirm all information in order to receive the scholarship.
The United Negro College Fund and the Merck Institute for Science Education together offer a scholarship for African Americans entering the field of biomedical research, including psychologists. There are at least 15 awards given out per year, and students can be awarded up to $35,000, including $25,000 for tuition and $10,000 in stipends during two 10- to 12-week summer internships. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be African American, enrolled full time as a junior in an accredited college or university, have a minimum 3.3 GPA, commit to the two internships at a Merck research facility and be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States.
Many colleges and universities offer scholarships specifically related to the major of the student. For example, the University of Toronto lists eight scholarships for students majoring in the field of psychology, with scholarships available at any year of study as well as ones for specific years of study, particularly years three and four. Some other colleges and universities offering psychology scholarships to enrolled students include Texas State, the University of Omaha, Indiana University, Virginia Tech and the University of Denver.
