The University of Edinburgh offers a selection of scholarships and studentships through its College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, including the Henry Dryerre Scholarship, intended for students of Medical or Veterinary Physiology. Eligible students must be at a Scottish university in their final year of study or must already be graduates of a Scottish University and intending to take up a research position of at least three years, also at a Scottish university.
The value of the scholarship is a bursary of £14,800 per year. Although the scholarship initially only covers the student for one year, the student may gain a further bursary in the following years of their course provided they demonstrate the required focus in their studies. The scholarship also can be applied toward travel and research expenses.

These scholarships are provided for by the Wellcome trust, the global charity which aims to promote advances in human and animal healthcare. The scholarships pay for undergraduate students to conduct research work over the summer, paying just under £200 per week for up to eight weeks work. The idea is that students not only develop their skills during their holidays but also are swayed towards a career in research by this work.
To apply, a student has to be part of a University, on a degree course relating to the work, for example, on a science degree course; they must also be either between their second and third years of study or having just finished their first year of their course.
