The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation provides scholarship assistance to Canadian college students through the Garfield Weston Awards. Garfield Weston Awards are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are entering college as a freshman, who are enrolling in a program that is at least six months in duration, who will be enrolled full time and who have an average of at least 75 percent in classes required for their degree program. The annual deadline for application is April 15. Upper Year Garfield Weston Awards are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are already enrolled in an undergraduate program of study and have an average of at least 73 percent. The National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation provides scholarship assistance to aboriginal Canadian college students through its bursary and scholarship awards. NAAF OFIFC Bursaries are awarded annually in the amount of $5,000. The NAAF also awards a limited number of bursaries in varying amounts to Aboriginal students who can demonstrate financial need. The NAAF also administers a number of scholarship programs. Students in the Aboriginal Health Careers Program with averages of 80 percent or better are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. The Oil & Gas Aboriginal Trades & Technology Scholarship is available in the amount of $500 to students studying in Alberta.
