Government Scholarships & Grants

The federal government makes large sums of money available every year in the form of scholarships and grants to individual students, institutions of higher education and private organizations. These grants and scholarships occur in many categories, from those designed to serve minority populations and the underprivileged to those funding academic research. With such a variety of government funding available, you don't have to look far to find a program that will meet your needs.
  1. Scholarships for Minority Students

    • The federal government sets aside money each year to fund scholarship and grant programs for those that show academic promise who come from minority populations. These programs provide the perfect opportunity for students who wouldn't normally be able to afford a quality college education to attain a higher quality of life.

One such program provides scholarships for Egyptian students that show promise and demonstrate a high financial need. This particular grant program has a total estimated funding of $10,000,000 ensuring that those students receiving grant funding through a program such as this will be able to afford their post-secondary education without question.

    Grants for Educational Programs

    • Private and nonprofit educational institutions are able to apply for funding for educational programs throughout the school year. These grants and scholarships enable schools to offer specialized programs they might not be able to offer otherwise to provide a unique educational experience for their students.

One such program is open to secondary and two-year secondary schools that would like to increase agricultural and agribusiness focus in the classroom. Organizations receiving grant funding work to increase their curriculum to produce more competent coursework in food and agri-science fields to create a better workforce in those fields moving forward. Grant recipient schools also should encourage more high-school-aged students to pursue post-secondary degrees in the agricultural fields.

    Grants for Scholarly Works

    • Students and academics conducting research are able to apply for grants and scholarships focused on funding their scholarly endeavors. Students or researchers receiving funding will often make their research findings available to the funding institution as part of their on-going development in the area of knowledge being investigated by the work created.

An example of this is a program funded through the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Those receiving grant funding through the NLM's program invest in creating scholarly works in the areas of biomedicine and health. They're required to write book-length manuscripts that focus on supporting medical health professionals, biomedical researchers and those focusing on the history of health care in the United States.
