Visit the fafsa.ed.gov site. This site allows you to complete the FAFSA online from the comfort of your home or at your educational institution.
Click the "Start Here" button. This button, which is located in the center of the page, will lead you directly to the online FAFSA form.
Input your first name followed by last, your social security number and your date of birth. Click the "Next" arrow located at the bottom right of the page immediately below the boxes into which you input your information.
State when you will be attending college. The FAFSA form will give you two options, one for immediate financial aid if you intend to begin school during the current academic year, and another for financial aid for the upcoming school year if you are not going to start until the next academic term. Select the option that is most appropriate for you.
Create a password. Select a password that is difficult enough not to be easily guessed, but also one that you can remember so you can access your FAFSA should you need to.
Read tutorials on the Introduction page. After selecting a password, you will be directed to the Introduction page. This page houses an array of useful tutorials that you may want to read before continuing, including explanations of how long the FASFA will take to complete and how you can sign your finished FASA. Click the "Next" arrow after you have finished exploring the tutorials.
Provide student demographics, answering questions about yourself including your address and telephone number. Click the "Next" arrow to move to the next screen.
Complete the school selection section in which you provide information as to which school you plan to attend. Click the "Next" arrow once finished.
Provide dependency status information, informing the government of whether you are a dependent as well as whether you have any dependents. Click the "Next" arrow.
Give information regarding your parents in the parent demographics section, providing your parents' addresses and contact information. Click the "Next" arrow to proceed.
Provide financial information. Using your parents' tax records as well as records of your own earnings if you are a dependent, answer the finance based questions that fill this section. Take care when inputting this information as it will be used to determine how much financial aid you will be offered.
Sign and submit the form. To do so, you will create an electronic pin and use these digits to digitally sign the form before submission.
Confirm your submission. Even after signing your FAFSA, you must confirm your submission before the form is processed. Complete the confirmation process, selecting "confirm" until you reach a screen that tells you that your FAFSA has been successfully submitted.
