Meet the New Mexico requirements to take the GED exam. The exam can only be taken by those who have not receive a high school diploma or equivalent, meets the age requirement and is not currently enrolled in a high school. Test takers must be 16 years of age and have an Underage Permission Form signed by both parents if under the age of 18. You do not have to be a resident to take the exam.
Study and prepare for the exam. There are books that can be purchased to help study for the exam that include sample questions and subject details. You can also speak with local school counselors for tips and study ideas. The earlier you start studying for the exam the more prepared you will be taking it.
Register for the GED exam at an Albuquerque testing center. Bring two forms of identification with you when you go to register for the exam. One form of identification must have your name, birth date and signature, such as a driver's license, state issued photo ID card or military ID. The second form of identification must have your birth date, signature, name or social security number on it, such as a passport, social security card or work ID. You will also need to pay for the GED exam at the time of registering. Fees may vary among different testing centers.
Take the exam on the scheduled date. It is a long exam, so you might want to bring a bottle of water and some healthy snacks with you. Do not forget to bring plenty of sharpened pencils with you. Remember to get enough sleep the night before, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive early.
Wait for the test results to be sent to you. It can take five to six weeks to get your test results. A combined score of 450 must be met to receive your GED, plus a minimum score of 410 on each section.
