How to Find My School's 2010 API Score

California's Department of Education publishes Academic Performance Index (API) scores for individual schools as part of the statewide system of school accountability set forth in the Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. The API number, which can range from 200 to 1000, comes from student scores on Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) and California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). Scores help educators, parents and students assess strengths and weaknesses in various schools across the state. The state keeps a database to aid in finding a school's score quickly and easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the California Department of Education's API results website (see Resources).

    • 2

Enter a portion of the name of the school for which you wish to learn results. Any schools with that word in their name will appear. For instance, typing "academy" brings up all schools in the database that have "academy" in the name, such as Fanno Academy and Century Academy. Click on the submit button at the bottom of the screen.

    • 3

Select the specific school from which you want results using the drop-down menu that appears. Click to put the radio button next to the choice for 2010 Base API Report--School Reports to get just this one school's score. Then click the submit button at the bottom of the page.

    • 4

Scroll down to the chart about halfway down the resulting page. The first line under the column "2010 Base" lists the schoolwide API score.
