How to Find a Surgical Technology School

Surgical technologists work within the operating room in order to ensure that the surgery goes to plan. He is responsible for making sure the instruments are cleaned and that the doctors are ready and prepared. In addition, many surgical technologists provide support to doctors by helping transfer patients, passing instruments to doctors during surgery or even helping to retract tissue or suture an incision post-surgery. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a median salary of $38,740 in 2008 and it can take anywhere from nine to 24 months to complete a certification course.

Go to your local community college's career counselor. Some community colleges will provide surgical technology certification programs and often at a cheaper rate than for-profit trade schools. Although your local community college may not provide a surgical technology course, a career counselor may be able to help you locate another community college in the area or give you the names of local trade schools.
