Learn what standards the school must meet. States set their accreditation standards, which determine if a particular school or school division is meeting at least the minimum requirements.
Ask the school. Under the federal law No Child Left Behind Act, schools are required to have annual report cards, which list how well students perform on state-approved tests. Those tests factor into whether the school becomes accredited.
Visit an accreditation agency. Organizations, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), visit schools and school districts to ensure they meet the organization's set of standards. Those often are separate from a state education agency.
Check Online. AdvancED has an international database of accredited schools. Enter your school's name into their online form.
