How to Get a GED for Adults

The high school equivalency diploma, more commonly known as the GED, is usually the minimum level of education required for individuals entering the U.S. military and higher education institutions or when applying for certain employment positions. Although it might be challenging to get your GED, many states and local facilities offer review classes and other helpful resources to examinees. After taking and successfully passing the GED exam, you will be awarded the GED.

Confirm your eligibility to enroll in a GED program. Most states require applicants to be at least 16 years old and a state resident. If you've received a high school diploma from any educational institution, you're ineligible to obtain a GED.

You can also purchase or borrow GED test review booklets from a local college bookstore or library.
