Provide proof of Texas residency. This can include a Texas driver's license or a bill with a Texas address.
Provide government-issued photo identification. This can include a Texas driver's license, department of public safety ID card or a U.S. passport.
Provide proof that you are not a high school graduate or enrolled in high school.
Secure a parent's or legal guardian's permission to take the exam.
Schedule your GED exam by contacting a GED testing center near you. Use the American Council on Education website listed in the resources section of this article to find nearby testing centers. You can also call 800-626-9433 to find a testing center.
Prepare for the GED either through self-directed study or any of many available books and online preparation programs. All GED exams include testing in five areas: language arts (writing), science, social science, language arts (reading), and math.
Score a minimum of 410 in each section to pass. Test takers need a cumulative score of at least 2050.
