Prepare to take your GED test by taking GED preparation classes and studying using a GED study guide. The classes can be taken at most schools and some community centers --contact your local testing center for information on specific locations. Study guides are available online and can also be found in a bookstore or library.
Locate a GED testing center in your area. This can be done using the search engine on the American Council on Education website. Enter your zip code into the search box on the website and press "Search." A list of nearby testing centers will be displayed.
Call the GED testing center you've chosen and schedule a testing date. There are usually a few scheduled test dates from which you can choose.
Arrive at the testing center on the day of your test with your photo ID, social security card and birth certificate. Everything else you need will be provided by the instructor.
Take the test and wait for your results. You will be sent a letter via mail saying whether your scores were high enough to pass. Request an official transcript by contacting your testing center.
