How to Get a GED in Mississippi

A General Educational Diploma, or GED, allows you to get jobs and get into college. Obtaining a GED is a good step toward your future, since many employers require a high school diploma or GED. You also need a GED to enlist in the military. You must be a current resident of Mississippi with a verifiable address if you are seeking to earn your GED in this state.

      Prove your age with an ID card, such as a driver's license or birth certificate. You must be 16 years old to take the GED test.

      Get an official withdrawal form from the office of your old high school, showing you have dropped out of school. Ask for copies of your school transcripts while you are at the front desk. You cannot be enrolled in any school while getting your GED, and you must have been out of school for at least six months prior to taking the GED exam.

      Visit a library or community college to get some GED practice exams. Adult education centers around the state offer free GED prep courses if you decide you need extra help.

      Take your GED exam on the scheduled day and time. Bring your calculator, ID, Social Security card and proof of residency.
