Autism Schools in Indiana

Schools in the United States designed and staffed for students with disabilities include some that cater solely to individuals with autism. The following three autism schools--all in Indianapolis, Indiana--offer a range of programs and expertise.
  1. The Applied Behavior Center

    • The Applied Behavior Center School in Indianapolis, Indiana, takes pride in being a "full-service" school for children with autism. The center handles many tasks for family members, including filling out all insurance forms, authorizations, billing and transportation. After-school care and therapy are available. There are four board-certified behavior analysts on staff, as well as full-time special education teachers and full-time speech pathologists. The center's facilities include two classrooms, four group instruction rooms,1,800 square feet of sensory equipment, a 700-square foot cafeteria and kitchen, a live video observation room for families and two social skills therapy rooms. After school care is available Monday through Thursday. The center takes any child over age 3, including those with Asperger's syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS).

    Verbal Behavior Center for Autism

    • Established in 2003, the Verbal Behavior Center for Autism is an intensive treatment center for both families and children of autism. The center operates under the direction of a clinical doctor and several board-certified consultants and therapists. Clinical services offered by the center include one-on-one therapy, weekly consultations with therapists and the supervising clinical specialist doctor, home visits by therapist (if desired), individual treatment plans and verbal behavior milestones assessment. For families seeking outpatient education for their autistic child, outpatient services include one-on-one therapy in the home, bi-weekly consultations with the supervising clinical specialist on staff, optional consultations with a speech and language pathologist and individual treatment plans and other assessments.

    Center for Exceptional Learning

    • The Center for Exceptional Learning in Indianapolis, Indiana offers leadership and support for students ages 3 to 21. Apart from being a school for autistic children, the center also educates children with the following disabilities: traumatic brain injury, visual impairments, emotional disabilities, hearing impairment, orthopedic impairments, developmental delay and communication disorders.
