Students pursuing a career in music in the state of Indiana will find great options for education in music performance, composition, conducting and band ensembles.   1. Jacobs School of Music

    • Jacobs School of Music is a public college famous for educating world-wide recognized music performers, conductors, and educators. It offers graduate and undergraduate music degrees that combine the rigorous focus found in music conservatories with ample academic programs. Jacobs School of Music, part of Indiana University in Bloomington, offers four modern concert halls that range from auditorium capacities of 100 seats to more than 1,400 seats. The list of majors and specializations for bachelor's, master's or doctorate degrees include the following: audio technology, brass pedagogy, composition computer music composition, jazz studies, recording arts, music education, musicology, percussion, and music literature and pedagogy. Programs of study at Jacobs School of Music are accredited by the National Associate of Schools of Music

    IUPUI Music and Arts Technology

    • Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) provides two areas of music education: the department of music and arts technology, and the music academy. As in many other music colleges and universities, IUPUI has a variety performance activities, concerts and continuous workshops taught by international performers and alumni. It offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in music technology, master's in music therapy, certification programs in music therapy and minor degrees in music and musical theater.

      The music academy provides educational programs that promote participation of kids and adults in performing arts. This is an independent music school that is supported by the department of music and arts technology. It has about 400 students, two campuses, including kindergarten and elementary schools

      and provides preschool and elementary music programs with computer-based instruction assistance.

    Butler University

    • The school of music in Butler University, belongs to the college of fine arts. The undergraduate degrees offered include bachelor of arts in music, bachelor of music in performance, composition, music education and piano pedagogy and also a bachelor of science in arts administration. Performance opportunities provided through ensembles are divided in four main groups: bands for wind ensemble, symphonic band, jazz ensemble and jazz combo; choirs for Jordan jazz, madrigal singers and university choir; orchestras for the Butler Symphony Orchestra and the JCFA Composers' Orchestra, and other ensembles such as lyric theater and percussion. There are 12 graduate programs offered at Butler, including music history, music theory, composition, conducting-choral, conducting-instrumental, music education, performance and piano pedagogy with non-thesis option. The music programs at Butler University are also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

    Ball State University

    • At Ball State's school of music, any student that has musical talent and wishes to perform is invited to participate in audition programs, regardless if he is not a music major. Ball State in Muncie offers summer programs for students who want explore the school through music workshops, seminars and weekly classes. The degrees offered include bachelor's, master's and doctorate in the following areas: ensembles and conducting, music performance, music education, music history and musicology, music composition, and music technology.
