Kenny Aronoff is recognized as one of the greatest Rock 'n' Roll drummers in the world. He attended Indiana University where he was awarded many music honors and prestigious awards. In 1980, he joined Indiana native John Mellencamp's band. Since then he has played with famous artists such as Melissa Etheridge, John Fogerty, Bob Seger, the Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Bob Dylan, Elton John and Jon Bon Jovi.
In 1996, he became an associate professor at Indiana University. In the same year, the Aronoff Percussion Scholarship was established. It's awarded to a percussion student enrolled at the Indiana University Jacob School of Music annually. Friday Musicale is an organization that focuses on serving the community of Bloomington, Indiana, by providing music programs. The association joined the educational and philanthropic organization National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) in 1908. NFMC is one of the largest music associations in the United States with more than 200,000 members.
In 1963, the Friday Musicale Scholarship was established to fund and award the academic achievements of music students at the Indiana University Jacob School of Music. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and musical talent. Scholarship winners will perform at the annual Friday Musicale luncheon in the spring.

In 1964, the Society of the Friends of Music organization was started to support the music scholarship funds given by Indiana University. In 2009, the Friends of Music donated more than $355,000 in grants and scholarships.
Also, the organization provides funds for talented students to travel to national and international music competitions. Friends of Music scholarship is awarded annually to eligible music students at Indiana University.

In 2006, the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship was created to assist minority undergraduate and graduate music students in attending an Indiana university. This scholarship is awarded to African-American students annually.

The Christel DeHaan Family Foundation's CEO and President is Christel DeHaan. She created a fellowship to award funds to graduate students pursuing a degree in music. Scholarship amounts are determined each year depending on available funds. DeHann is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis where the main music facility is named after her.
