Print colored pictures of various objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet. For example, print images of an apple, ball and cat. Glue each image on a separate index card. Laminate the index cards to prevent them from ruining.
Remove the letter puzzle pieces from the puzzle. Scramble the pieces so that the letters are not in ABC order
Shuffle the index cards as you would a deck of playing cards. Place the index cards face-down in a pile.
Ask the child to flip over the top index card and say the word that represents the image such as "apple" aloud. Ask the child what letter "apple' begins with.
Tell the child to find the letter puzzle piece that represents the beginning letter of the picture on the index card. Ask the child to place the puzzle piece letter in the correct spot on the puzzle.
Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until the puzzle is complete.
