Make sugar cookie Zs ahead of time.(See resources for link.) Let the cookies cool completely. While the cookies are cooling, make the icing. Color the icing using icing coloring, if desired. Let the children frost their cookies and decorate them with different kinds of sprinkles, colored sugar, or other goodies.
Use a permanent marker or felt-tip pen to draw fairly wide dark outlines of large Zs on construction paper. Have the children cut them out. Let them outline the letter with glued pipe cleaners. Use markers, stickers, paint, or other materials to decorate inside the Z. Hang up to display.
Give each child a cut out construction paper Z and a piece of whole construction paper. The whole construction paper should be large enough that you can glue the Z on it. Glue the Z onto the construction paper. Tell the children to draw eyes, nose, mouth, arms, legs, tail, etc. to make an animal. You could also give them cut-outs of these items to glue onto their Zs. Use the pictures to create a bulletin board called "Our Zoo."
Bake a sheet cake. (See resources for link.) Let cool completely. Cut out a Z the entire length and width of the cake. Frost. Use cake decorating tools to pipe icing onto the cake. Decorate with small items that begin with Z.
Make Zs out of salt dough and let air dry. Once dry, paint with the color of your choice. Glue acrylic jewels onto the Z after the paint is dry.
