Homework Activities for Preschool Children to Go With the Letter L

Activities-based learning is a positive way to help children learn to recognize the letter "L." Choosing activities that require the help of parents is a good way to help them stay involved with their child's education. For homework assignments that require parental help, be sure to give the parents advanced notice so they can make time to help on the assignment.
  1. Make an "L"

    • Give the preschool child a piece of construction paper and a written assignment plan for the letter "L." The child must go home and glue random household objects onto the paper to form the letter "L." The child can use cotton balls, uncooked macaroni noodles, paper clips or even popcorn. If the child does not have any glue at home, he should draw a letter "L" on the page and decorate it with crayon stripes, flowers or doodles.

    "L" Collage

    • Give the children a piece of construction paper to take home with them. Have the children go on a home scavenger hunt for the letter "L." They can go through an old magazine and cut out all the "L"s they can find. They can also use newspapers, old fliers or food box labels. Have the children glue the letters on the piece of construction paper to form a big letter "L" on the paper. Make sure to try to find letter "L"s in different colors and sizes.

    Leaves Start With "L"

    • Have the children go to their backyard, a park or the nearest woods and find leaves from all different trees. The children should find at least 10 different types of leaves. Have the children keep the leaves in a box or a bag and bring them to school the next day. In class, have the children group the leaves that look similar. They should choose their favorite group, and paste the leaves onto a piece of construction paper in a letter "L" shape.
