Create flashcards to review letters or use purchased flashcards. If you are making your own, write a different letter of the alphabet on each card. On the reverse side, glue colorful pictures that begin with the corresponding letter. For example, cut out a picture of an apple from a magazine to use with the letter A.
Expose your child to all the cards before reviewing the flashcards. Show your child pictures of each letter. This can also be done by writing the letters on a paper with your child.
Begin showing the flashcards in order, beginning with A. Show your child the front and back of the card. For example, present him with the A flashcard. When you flip it over, say "A is for apple because apple begins with A." You will have to review the cards more than once and probably over several days. Go through the cards until your child has a basic grasp of the letters.
Review the cards by presenting your child with either the letter or picture side. Have him tell you what letter or picture is on the other side. Set aside time each day to review the cards.
Use the cards to teach sounds as an advanced method of review. Before beginning, let your child hear how each letter sounds. Review the cards using the same approach as before, but instead of asking for the corresponding letter, your child must say the correct sound.
