Limit your lesson time. Children with ADD are often not capable of focusing on a lesson for long periods of time. Mix the challenge with the natural high energy of a preschooler and you have a child that will likely not be able to focus for more than 10 minutes on end. To ensure that the child is attentive from lesson start to finish, do not expect him to pay attention for longer than this amount of time.
Post an alphabet strip on the student's desk. Many ADD children make a habit of looking around during lessons. Ensure that your learner has something educational to look at by placing bright, engaging teaching tools on her desk. This way, when her eyes wander, they may land on an educational aid.
Use the ABC song, which is an effective means of memorizing the alphabet that even adults rely on from time to time. Sing this song with the learner daily as a short and attention-getting alphabet review.
Offer movement-based learning activities. Allow the learner to move while he learns by preparing activities that include movement. For example, you could write out each of the letters on index cards and jumble them up, and then give them to the student and ask him to place them in a row across the floor as quickly as he can.
Allow the child to learn cooperatively. Instead of asking the child to learn in isolation, allow him to be social while he practices his alphabet skills by giving him the opportunity to complete learning activities with peers.
