Ideas for Camping Themed Preschool Crafts

When teaching your preschoolers about the outdoors, design camping-themed crafts for them to create. Incorporate a few camping projects to help your students grasp the concept of outdoor camping. A few supplies from your local retail and craft store are all you need to get started with crafts that will keep your preschoolers involved in the lesson plan.
  1. Leaf Drawings

    • Bring several leaves to your preschool class to show your students how to make leaf drawings. Place several bowls on the table with different colors of washable, acrylic paint in each bowl. Give each student a large piece of construction paper and let them dip the leaves in one of the bowls of paint. The students will press the leaf down on the paper to make a leaf print. Another idea for a leaf drawing is to put the leaf under a thin sheet of paper and color over it. Take the wrapper off a crayon and place the crayon on its side to color. This will leave the impression of the leaf.

    Homemade Binoculars

    • Collect several empty toilet paper rolls and teach your students how to make binoculars. Help them glue two toilet paper rolls together and let the glue dry. After the glue dries, the students can color, paint, use markers, stickers and glitter to decorate their binoculars.

    Nature Wreath

    • Take your preschoolers outside and let them collect several outdoor items. Tell them they need items, such as leaves, sticks, rocks and flowers. Cut a hole out of several paper plates and give one to each student. The students can glue the outdoor items to the paper plate to create a nature wreath.

    Campfire

    • Make a campfire using empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls, glue and tissue paper (red, orange and yellow). Divide the preschoolers into groups of three or four and let them work together. Each group will use the paper towel rolls to create a base for the campfire. Stack and glue several toilet paper rolls in the middle of the base like a pyramid. Take the tissue paper and tear it into strips to glue to the campfire to resemble a real fire.

    Tents

    • Cut a flap on the side of several 1/2-gallon milk cartons. Give each preschooler a milk carton and tell her to design her own tent. She can use markers, brown paper bags, colors, crayons, glue and paint to decorate it.
