High School Scholarships for Children With Special Needs

When you have a child who has special needs, it can be difficult to cover the extra costs of physical and occupational therapy. Scholarships are available to help your high school student receive the services that he needs and to attend the best schools possible. Many states offer scholarships specific to their state. You may want to contact your state's department of education to learn more information.
  1. The Carson Smith Scholarship

    • The Carson Smith Scholarship is set up to help cover the costs of additional services needed by children with special needs. It requires that you have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) with your school. The amount of the scholarship is based on the amount of services that your child needs in the IEP. It is only available for students who are attending a private school in Utah. The scholarship is offered by lottery, and you may have difficulty renewing it each year.

Students must have attended a school in the state for a year to qualify. The scholarship can be used to help the child transfer to another public school, which will better be able to meet his needs, or to attend a private school that is on an approved state list.
