Flint River is a special education school serving students who need a therapeutic learning environment. Students must be referred from their home schools to attend; meetings are scheduled the parents, the home school and the student. Once accepted, parents, teachers and counselors agree upon and implement an Individual Education Plan.
The school offers therapeutic programs such as music therapy and structured behavioral and special education strategies. Once the goals of the IEP are met, the student returns to his home school.

The Lewis Academy, a charter school serving grades kindergarten to 5th, is a school of choice; therefore, parents who live in the Clayton County School zone are eligible to apply.
Students are chosen through a lottery system and, once enrolled, are involved in rigorous academic challenges and a content-rich program.
Students must wear a uniform, as well as follow a strict code of conduct. Parents must also volunteer 15 hours a year at school events.

The Unidos Dual Language Charter School is an alternative school where students are given the opportunity to learn proficiency and literacy in Spanish and English at the same time. Spanish and English students are taught together in the same classroom and teachers team teach -- teacher A teaches in Spanish and teacher B teaches in English.
