The mission of Alpha High School is to "provide individually tailored academic training, wide-ranging experience in the world of work, and positive self-development." The school provides kids with a balance of academic work and hands-on experience with "real world" businesses within the community. The school operates on a six hour day with three hours dedicated to the classroom and three hours of job training. Alpha High School is limited to 60 students giving it a small student to teacher ratio. The school also boasts a graduation rate of more than 87 percent.
Pacific View Alternative School is a small private school with 20 students serving grades 7 to12. An individualized curriculum is developed for each student at Pacific School and all students work at a pace deemed challenging enough to keep students engaged but not overwhelmed. Students must complete all courses required by the state of Oregon to graduate, however the small size of the school offers educators the opportunity to create unique electives in areas of the student's interest.
The Gresham-Barlow Web Academy is an on-line public charter school approved by the Oregon Department of Education. The school offers a combination of face to face instruction and a personalized web-based education program designed to meet student's unique needs. The school also encourages interaction with the community in the form of field trips and community service projects. As of the beginning of the 2010 school year, Gresham-Barlow Web Academy had 89 students enrolled and employed eight teachers. The school also hosts five social clubs so students can interact with one another.
A secondary public charter school for junior and senior students, the Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) focuses on career and technical training. CAL offers students advanced courses in four technology-based fields: Digital Media & Design, Networking & Programing, Medical/Dental Sciences and Engineering/Manufacturing. Entering students must have successfully completed two years of high school math, English and science. From there, students enter one of the technology-based education programs that offer entry level training as well as completing all Oregon required courses for graduation. Each school year culminates in an individual Capstone Project. Capstones are real world projects connected to the student's program individually designed to engage the student in the community.
