This private, full-scholarship, nonprofit school is located in the mountain community of Estes Park. The school is small and admission is selective. While the school primarily serves students who have run out of other ways to graduate from high school, Eagle Rock doesn't accept students with severe mental health issues or physical disabilities that require constant monitoring. Students are not admitted as freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors. They graduate when they demonstrate a mastery of the school's requirements. Some classes aren't graded; students complete credits through coursework, class participation and service projects off campus. Each student has an individualized learning plan.

Red Canyon High School is located in Eagle, Colorado and is part of the Eagle County School District. Students must live within the district's boundaries to attend. The school serves a variety of students who have struggled in traditional high school settings. Some have medical problems that prevent them from attending a traditional school schedule. Others are teen parents or must work too many hours to attend a typical high school. The school tries to accommodate work schedules and child care needs to help students behind on credits earn a high school diploma.
