How to Decorate a Classroom As a Cafe

To teach a lesson on literature in elementary or middle school you may want to replicate an outdoor cafe where writers and poets congregated to swap ideas and stories. It is fairly simple for the teacher to decorate her classroom as a cafe, and students will be able to experience for themselves what this unique time in history and literature was all about.

Instructions

    • 1

Drape sheets and crepe paper around the classroom. Use different colors of crepe paper for a decorative effect. Use paper lanterns bought at discount stores and attach these to the ceiling of your classroom with a stapler.

    • 2

Arrange desks together into cafe tables and cover with a checkered tablecloth. Place chairs around the table and put arrangements of flowers, fake or real, on the tables in small glass or plastic vases.

    • 3

Place plastic pitchers of water on each table with plastic glasses. You can use multicolored plastic ware found at discount or dollar stores. Add newspapers and magazines as well as various works of classic literature.

    • 4

Cut different colors of crepe paper into small squares and scatter them around the floor of the classroom. This will bring color to your classroom and give the overall effect of leaves in fall in an outdoor cafe. Bring in small lamps and place them on the cafe tables in your classroom.
