How to Decorate a Preschool Board

A bulletin board can be whatever you need it to be for your preschool classroom. Use it to show off student artwork, share information with parents or illustrate classroom lessons. When you're creating a board for preschoolers, making the display colorful is key to drawing their attention, but going overboard with the colors can be overwhelming for children with sensory issues. Choose rich colors such as navy blue and apple red rather than covering the board with glitter and neon shades. Preschoolers and parents alike will be sure to check out the board first thing each day.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the board with paper. Once you've created a colorful base for the board, you can easily change the decorations on top to reflect different holidays and events. Cut a piece out of a large sheet of wrapping paper to fit the board or layer several pieces of construction paper to cover the board. Use a stapler to secure the paper to the board.

    • 2

Attach decorative borders to the edges of the base paper. This is optional, but adds extra color and interest to your board. Buy decorative strips or make your own. Staple them in place.

    • 3

Cut out letters to use for a headline at the top of the board. Trace block letters onto colored paper -- use a different shade from the color of the base paper -- and cut them out. Spell out a header such as "Welcome to Preschool" or "Ms. Stacey's Class." Staple the letters to the top of the board, using one staple at the top and one at the bottom of each letter.

    • 4

Cut out pictures to hang on the board or gather together your students' work to display. Trim white space or borders from pictures so that they're as small as possible, allowing you to fit more pictures on the board. You might also cut examples of the letter of the week or gather up classroom information, such as weekly schedules, to hang on the board. Attach each item using a pushpin or thumbtack.

    • 5

Pull each tack out carefully when you're ready to change up the board. When you find new pictures to hang, position them over existing tack holes so that these spots won't show.
