Cover the bulletin board with green or white paper and paint or mount a construction paper tree in the center. Create a tree with many arching brown branches and no leaves. Leave it up all year as a background for themed bulletin boards. In fall, add paper apples bearing each class member's first name. Hang letters to spell "Bushels of Fun at Preschool". Replace the apples with the children's autumn-themed artwork throughout the season. Decorate the tree with class-made ornaments before the winter break. Staple paper snowflakes or youngsters' paintings of winter animals to the board through the colder months. In spring, fill the tree with green leaves and flowering buds made of tissue paper. Add bird and butterfly art projects to the springtime tree.
Cut T-shirt shapes from colored construction paper and pass one T-shirt to each student. Ask the youngsters to create a "me-shirt" by writing their name across the front and drawing pictures of things and people who are important to them. Cover the bulletin board with a white paper background. Staple tall, thin gray rectangles of construction paper on each side of the board to resemble clothesline poles. Attach twine or sturdy string to the poles to form a clothesline running from one end of the board to the other. Hang the children's shirts on the line with spring-type wooden clothes pins. Add the words "All About Me" above the shirts in the center of the board.
Put up a January bulletin board to welcome the class back from the winter break. Before the break, trace each child's footprint on black construction paper. Cut the footprints out and turn them upside down so that the heal is the head of the penguin. Let the class glue on yellow or orange construction paper triangle-shaped beaks and plastic wiggle eyes, available at craft stores, to the penguins' heads. Let the children paint or color a white oval in the middle of the footprint penguin and glue on black construction paper wings and feet. Cover the bulletin board with blue paper and add a white snowy slope shape extending from the upper left corner to the bottom right corner. Staple or tape the footprint penguins from the top to the bottom of the slope so it appears as if they are sliding down. Add the words "Sliding Into the New Year" across the top of the board.
