Ask each student to contribute a piece of artwork about a moose. Provide them with a plethora of materials such as paint, crayons, chalk, colored pencils and paper to create their moose. Bring in magazines for students who would prefer to cut out pictures of a moose. They could also bring in photographs from home that they have of a real moose, or take a picture of a moose sculpture that they have created.
Bring the students to the school library and allow them to conduct research about the moose on the Internet or in library books. Require each student to find one or two facts about the moose. Upon returning to the classroom, have each student come up to the bulletin board and write the fact that he found on it. If there are duplicate facts, only have them written on the bulletin board one time. Students could conduct research in groups and find up to 10 facts to avoid duplicates.
Assign each student a small writing sample. Require them to write a poem or a short story about a moose, or allow them creative freedom in choosing the style of writing, as long as it is about a moose. Once they have written their piece, they will cut out the writing from the paper and glue it on to the picture or the shape of a moose. Each student will put her moose on the bulletin board.
Find a variety of magazines and newspapers that have articles on the moose in them, or allow the students to conduct research on the Internet to find such pieces. Each of the students should cut out a different story. Have them share the stories with the class to broaden their understanding of the moose. Once the stories have been shared, each student can glue his news story to the classroom bulletin board.
