College Bulletin Board Ideas

Although students communicate electronically to order food, send messages and say hello, there are still plenty of signs, posters and advertisements covering every college campus. Within dorms, academic halls and common areas, colleges place bulletin boards where students can post their own fliers and information. Whether you've got an item to sell or share, or are in search of a new friend, a college bulletin board can help get your message across.
  1. Sell Books

    • Toward the end of each semester, student bulletin boards are covered with advertisements encouraging them to sell back their books to the college bookstore. If you have a rare, hard-to-find or in demand book to sell, consider posting a flier on your college bulletin board. Be sure to list the book's condition (include any highlighting or notes), whether it originally came with media (include information about missing CDs), the date of publication and version number. You can check online book sites to see what the book is selling for and price accordingly.

    Roommates

    • If you're seeking a new dorm or suite mate, consider posting a sign on the bulletin board at your college. Be sure to specify important things such as whether you will accept someone who smokes or has a pet, but also include information on lifestyle. If you're a night owl, a roommate with very early classes or who gets up at dawn for the gym may not be a perfect match. If you have something to offer, such as a microfridge, DVD player or cooking range, make sure the ad lists it. Don't be afraid to ask for particulars, such as "Looking for a diet buddy" or "Would like a roommate who follows 'Battlestar Gallactica.'"

    Tutoring

    • If you excel at a college subject and work well with people, have patience and enjoy seeing people learn, you may be able to make extra money tutoring other students. Although your college may have a formalized tutoring center, you can create a bulletin board ad offering your services and post it in the dorms, in the building where your tutoring subject matter is held or in the cafeteria. Include information about times and days you are available to tutor, which areas of subject matter, contact information and whether you'll meet students in the library, classroom or dorm. If you have certification from an SAT-prep center or any advanced training in the subject, be sure to list it on your bulletin board ad.
