Preschool Picture Bulletin Board Ideas

In a preschool, a bulletin board can add a splash of color and texture to the classroom. As a teacher, you can use the bulletin board to familiarize class members with each other, support lessons, or to complete the theme of a semester. While planning bulletin boards, consider the season and your goals for the class.
  1. School of Fish

    • If your preschool class will be studying the ocean or working on projects that involve marine life, a school of fish bulletin board can enhance the experience. Start with a blue or aquamarine background to represent the water; look for metallic paper for extra texture. Make a fish for each of your preschoolers and put their photo in the center, and arrange the fish in formation. Add details like seaweed floating on the currents, bubbles, and other small sea creatures for extra color and visual interest.

    Family Tree

    • To give the impression that your classroom is like a second family, make a family tree bulletin board. Use a background that has a narrow green strip to represent grass and a wide blue strip for the sky, and cut the trunk and branches out of brown paper. For a spring tree, use green leaves and place each child's face on an apple. In the fall and winter, you can put each student on an autumn leaf that is hanging from the tree.

    Caterpillar Class

    • Make a bright, bold bulletin board in the shape of a caterpillar to add a fun touch to your classroom. Create a large circle section for each preschooler and paste their photo in the center; make a separate section for the caterpillar's head. Arrange the circles in a line so they form the caterpillar's body. overlapping the edges as needed. You can make bumps in the caterpillar's body to fit all of the students on one board.

    Christmas Elves

    • During the holidays, make a festive preschool bulletin board with Christmas elves. Involve students in the project by giving them blank red and green elf bodies and hats and allowing kids to personalize them with markers, crayons, craft paper, and glue. Make a complete elf by cutting out each child's face from a photo, pasting it above the body, and putting the hat on top. Arrange the elves on the board in a scene: around the Christmas tree, in the snow, or in groups with different holiday ornaments.

    Sweet Shop

    • At the beginning of the year, make a bright, textured bulletin board that celebrates your sweet preschoolers. Create a selection of brightly-colored candies by wrapping circular pieces of styrofoam in cellophane, wrapping paper, or craft paper. Tie the ends of the paper with ribbon and glue the students' pictures on to individual candies. Arrange the candies in a bowl, tied to a ribbon, or in individual sweet shop jars on the bulletin board, and let the children take their piece home at the end of the year.
