Cover the bulletin board in dark blue paper to create the sky. Help the children cut out stars from Bristol board or cardboard. Have them cover the stars with aluminum foil and use them to create a border around the bulletin board. Add a picture of a space shuttle to the display. Provide each child with an astronaut picture to color. Hang the astronauts on the bulletin board and use string to attach each one to the space shuttle. Make a sign or use ready-made letters to create a title such as "Shooting for the Stars" or "3-2-1 Blastoff" for the top of the bulletin board.
Have each child cut out a large raindrop from white paper. Provide the children with blue paint and small sponges to sponge paint their raindrops. Cut out a large cloud from white paper. Have the children use black finger paint to put their handprints on the cloud. Hang the cloud near the top of the bulletin board and scatter raindrops below it. Cut a zigzag shape from yellow paper and attach it to the cloud to create lightning.
Create a sign or use ready-made letters to post the title "Habitats" at the top of the bulletin board. Attach yarn to the bulletin board to divide it into four equal sections. Label the sections "Farm," "Desert," "Forest" and "Ocean." Provide the children with a variety of animals that can be found in each habitat. Have them color the animals. Children choose the correct habitats for the animals and attach them to the proper sections of the bulletin board.
Create a mural by covering the bulletin board in butcher paper. Have the children paint a sky on the paper using blue paint and sponges or small rollers. Provide them with cotton balls to create clouds. Have the children use brown construction paper to create tree trunks and branches and attach them to the bulletin board. They can add leaves to the trees by cutting ovals out of green construction paper. Provide the children with pictures of dinosaurs to paint or color. Add them to the bulletin board.
